Scooter operator pinned

UPDATE 2 P.M.

Sgt. Stephane Lacroix with the Summerland RCMP says emergency responders got the call at 12:40 p.m. of a two-vehicle crash on Highway 97 at Prairie Valley Road.

When police arrived they found the operator of a scooter, an elderly Summerland man, pinned underneath a Lexus.

The elderly man was transported to Penticton Regional Hospital with unknown injuries, but one witness tells Castanet the man's injuries appeared very serious.

The driver of the car is from Penticton and was not injured in the crash.

The accident is under investigation.

Traffic is still slow heading northbound through Summerland.  


ORIGINAL 1:30 P.M.

A crash has slowed northbound traffic on Highway 97 in Summerland.

The collision, at Highway 97 and Prairie Valley Road, apparently involved a vehicle and a scooter.

A witness at the scene told Castanet they heard a crash and saw a silver Lexus coupe stopped in the intersection and part of a scooter flying through the air.

Police are at the scene.

There is no word on injuries yet.
