No haunted house this year

People hoping to get their scare on this Halloween won't have the Okanagan Science Centre to fill their need for screams.

The science centre is holding several 25th anniversary events this month, and executive director Jim Swingle says it just wasn't possible to put on the haunted house as well, which takes hundreds of volunteer hours to set up.

“We didn't take the haunted house decision lightly,” said Swingle of the popular event.

“It meant closing the science centre for two to three weeks because it takes that long to prepare. There is the haunted maze at O'Keefe, so Vernon will not go without something haunted.”

Field of Screams: The Harvest will run at Historic O'Keefe Ranch, on Highway 97 north of Vernon, Oct. 22-24 and then again Oct. 27-30.

Gates open at 6 p.m., with the corn maze opening at 7 p.m.

The event is not suitable for young children.
