Big metal bird on the loose

A big bird is on the loose in Lake Country, and its owners are desperate to get it back home.

A recent string of break-ins and thefts from vehicles in the community appears to have a new victim – and it is five feet tall and made out of metal.

The bird sculpture was made by a local artist and was proudly displayed on his front yard on Barkley Road.

According his wife, the sculpture was stolen this morning, about 6:50 a.m.

“It was taken in less than 10 seconds,” says Keelie Morrison. “I was on my back deck, and I heard it, and in the few seconds it took me to go out front, they were gone.”

Morrison is convinced the bird will pop up on someone else's yard or property as they don't believe it's worth anything in scrap metal.

“I'm hoping you can share these images, in the hopes that someone will recognize it, wherever it has ended up.”

The Morrisons are offering a $100 reward for the bird's safe return. If you have any information on where the sculpture might be, contact the Lake Country RCMP at 250-766-2288 and quote file number 2015-56224.

"It's priceless to us in terms of sentiment, so hopefully we'll get it back," adds Morrison.

Lake Country RCMP are actively investigating a string of thefts that have occurred in recent weeks.
