Shots fired in Coldstream

North Okanagan RCMP are concerned for public safety as they investigate the second shots-fired incident in just over a week.

Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy said a number of bullets were fired about 1:30 a.m. Saturday on the 6400 block of Highway 6 in Coldstream. No one was injured.

"Police arrested two adult males in relation to this matter," said Noseworthy. "They have since be released without charges."

However, the investigation is far from over.

The confrontation took place after two groups of people met on the property, near a large barn. They did not appear to know each other, said Noseworthy.

Police were called after receiving a number of reports from the area of shots fired.

A weapon and drugs were seized by officers, said Noseworthy.

"Anytime we have a firearm being discharged, it causes us concern for public safety," said Noseworthy.

"In outdoor situations like this, you have the potential of someone being hurt, even a great distance away, if nothing stops that bullet."

When asked about possible gang activity, Noseworthy indicated it is too early to tell. "We're still at the initial part of the investigation. We're still speaking to witnesses.''

She said there were a number of witnesses to the incident and that they are being co-operative, unlike those in a Sept. 23 incident that occurred outside a townhouse complex in Vernon's East Hill area.

Noseworthy said RCMP are "looking into the possibility" the two incidents are connect but, at this point, have no evidence to link them.

Police are asking the public to contact the RCMP or CrimeStoppers with any information connected to the Coldstream incident.
