Crash closes Carmi

A single-vehicle car crash shut down a Penticton intersection overnight.

About 11:30 p.m., Penticton Fire Rescue, RCMP, B.C. Ambulance and city electrical crews were called to Carmi Avenue, near the intersection of Dartmouth Road, where a car had crashed into a utility pole.

The vehicle was wrapped around the pole, the impact causing the pole to hang dangerously over the two-lane road.

All occupants of the car apparently were able to exit the vehicle, and three teenagers were seen walking toward the ambulance.

City crews were working on stabilizing the pole and wires, and it was expected that work would continue into this morning. That section of Carmi was closed to traffic.

RCMP are investigating the possibility of speed, alcohol and distracted driving in the incident.
