Jackson Whistle will get a break from Kelowna Rockets training camp next week – to attend the Vancouver Canucks rookie camp.
The Canucks announced this week Whistle will take part in the club's rookie camp and the Young Stars tournament.
Rookie camp begins Thursday, Sept. 10 at the South Okanagan Events Centre in Penticton. The tournament, featuring prospects from the Canucks, Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames and Winnipeg Jets, runs from Sept. 11 to 13.
Whistle and U.S. college hopeful Clay Witt are the two goaltenders announced by the Canucks to participate.
Seven other current Western Hockey League players will take part in the tournament. They include:
- Anton Cederholm - Portland. Defence
- Tate Olson - Prince George. Defence
- Ashton Sautner - Edmonton. Defence
- Reid Gardiner - Prince Albert. Forward
- Jonathon Martin - Kootenay. Forward
- Stewart Mackenzie - Prince Albert. Forward
- Jake Virtanen - Calgary. Forward
Former Medicine Hat Tiger Hunter Shinkaruk will also participate.
Several top draft choices will also take part, including defenceman Jordan Subban, brother of Montreal Canadian P.K. Subban, along with forwards Cole Cassels, Jared McCann and Brendan Gaunce.
The tournament is also expected to feature Edmonton Oiler first overall selection Connor McDavid.
