Robbed while sleeping

A 20-year-old woman was injured after someone smashed the window of her car and stole her purse and cellphone just before 8 a.m. Sunday.

Vernon RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk said the Vernon woman was sleeping in her Volkswagen Jetta while it was parked on the corner of 30th Street and 29th Avenue.

“The victim told police she was awoken to her passenger window being smashed by a male suspect who grabbed her cell phone and purse that was on the passenger seat,” said Molendyk. “The victim told police she grabbed onto the purse and shouted for help while she was being pulled through the broken window.”

The woman let go of the purse but sustained injuries her arms from the window as a result of this incident.

“The male left on a bicycle with her pink purse and cell phone,” said Molendyk.

Police are investigating this incident and are asking anyone with information to call RCMP at 250-545-7171, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
