Foes watch over rival signs

Campaign workers with both the Conservative and NDP parties in Kelowna Lake-Country are working in concert to protect each other's election signs.

Both parties have seen some of their election signs vandalized since the campaign officially began earlier this month.

However, Ken Lang who is running incumbent Ron Cannan's campaign, said the vandalism is not nearly as bad now as it was a few weeks ago.

At the beginning, Lang said it was almost a daily occurrence. Now, he said the vandalism has slowed down.

He said they even have a picture of someone vandalizing one of their signs.

"He was a young kid and the comment was 'it's freedom of speech.' We made it clear it's not freedom of speech on federal property," said Lang.

He pointed out that it's not the party or the candidate who is harmed when signs are knocked down or vandalized, it's the volunteers who have to go around and clean up the mess.
