Winery goes to the dogs

The See Ya Later Ranch Winery has a long tradition of supporting the BC SPCA, and this summer is no exception to the rule.

The Okanagan Falls winery will hold the 13th annual Dog Days of Summer, in conjunction with the local chapter of the SPCA on Saturday afternoon.

"It's a fun event because people come with their dogs, and  the fashion show is always a hit," said Trudy Carr, the visitor experience manager for the winery.

Major Hugh Fraser, the former owner of the property from 1919 to 1970, supported the SPCA during his time there and had many dogs over the years.

Many of the animals are even buried in a doggy cemetery with 12 headstones on the land.

"That is the main reason because of his long history," said Carr, of the connection. "On a year-round basis we donate a portion from our wine tastings to them as well."

Fifty cents from every sale of a bottle of Jimmy My Pal wine, named after the major's first dog, is also donated to the SPCA.

Saturday's event will include local vendors under the tent, wine tasting stations and doggone delicious dogs, created by Chef Darin.

Other highlights are a doggy fashion show, live music and a silent auction.

People are invited to come with their dogs, as it is an outdoor event.

Dog Days of Summer will take place from noon to 4 p.m. at the winery at 2575 Green Lake Road. It is by donation.
