UPDATE AUG 5:

The BC Wildfire Service's initial attack crews made quick work of a small fire near Trout Creek Tuesday night.

Fire information officer Melissa Klassen says the blaze held at 20m by 20m and is now 100 per cent contained.

Crews will be back on the scene today to complete the mop up of the small fire.

Klassen says the fire is believed to be lightning caused.

ORIGINAL AUG 4:

Forestry initial attack crews are on their way to a wildfire near Trout Creek in Summerland.

Smoke could be seen rising from a heavily wooded area about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Melissa Klassen, fire information officer with the Kamloops Fire District, said little is currently known about the fire as crews have yet to arrive on scene.

“Until we get people up there, we don't know what we're dealing with, but there is some open flame,” she said.

Klassen said currently the size of the fire is not known and it is being classified as a Rank 1, which means the fire is not very agressive.

While the cause of the fire is not yet known, a lightning storm did roll through the Valley earlier in the evening.
