The Okanagan will serve as part of the backdrop for a new independent film.
Mutant Films will begin a one-week shoot of the film The Orchard, beginning Aug. 10.
The movie will star Matt Angel (R.L Stine’s The Haunting Hour, CSI Miami and CSI NY), and Morgan Taylor Campbell (Super Natural, Spooksville, and The Killing), along with an ensemble cast.
"The Orchard" is written and directed by Kate Twa, who also wrote and directed "God’s of Youth" in 2011.
Twa has been in the industry for 25 years as an actress, appearing in The Outer Limits, DaVinci's Inquest and The Dead Zone.
While shooting in the Okanagan, the film will hire most of its crew locally.
“The Okanagan is gaining a great reputation as the place to film. We have built up a strong crew base and infrastructure here, and can accommodate any production that wants to come to our region. We are so pleased to have back-to-back productions this year bringing revenue and recognition to our region," said Okanagan Film Commissioner Jon Summerland.
"The Indie film industry is a major economic driver in this province, and it is really great to have it continue to grow as an industry in the Okanagan. Indie films are the easiest route for an inexperienced local to land a job as a crew member. Indie films build our crew base and our industry."
