Jumpers ignore warnings

North Vancouver firefighters are frustrated after being called multiple times over the long weekend to Lynn Canyon.

The pools and chutes of Lynn Creek are a popular spot to escape the summer heat, and leaping from the canyon walls attracts thrill seekers.

Every year, people get hurt – and some die – in the fast-moving waters or from hitting submerged rocks.

Rescue crews were called to the area five times during the weekend to help people injured or stuck after jumping from Twin Falls bridge.

Assistant fire chief Mike Cairns told CTV firefighters hadn't even finished loading their latest rescue victim onto a stretcher when people began jumping again.

He's told jumpers that people have died at the spot, but says the thrill-seekers don't want to listen.
