Wildfire forces out campers

A human-caused wildfire is burning near Harrison Lake, forcing campers out of the area.

Fire information officer Donna MacPherson says the blaze was discovered early Sunday afternoon burning about 20 kilometres north of Harrison Lake in an area thick with brush and logging debris.

The fire isn't threatening any homes or structures, but it is in a recreational area so RCMP have blocked off the road and asked campers to leave the nearby Wood Lake campground.

MacPherson says about 20 people are fighting the fire, along with three helicopters and airtankers that are dropping both water and retardant on the flames.

Another 20 person crew and three pieces of heavy machinery are on their way to help.

MacPherson says the fire was human-caused and entirely preventable, and adds that the fire danger in the area is extreme.
