Fentanyl overdoses

A Lower Mainland teen is on life support after a suspected fentanyl overdose.
Two boys, aged 16 and 17, are believed to have purchased and consumed fake Oxycontin known as "fake 80s."

“The two lost consciousness in a Vancouver park after taking the drug last night,” Const. Brian Montague of the Vancouver Police Department said Sunday. “Both young men were rushed to B.C. Children's Hospital. The 16-year-old woke and is recovering, but the 17-year-old is in grave condition on life support.”

The fake pills were green with the number 80 on them. Police are reminding everyone fentanyl can be found in many forms and is often mixed with other drugs.

Fentanyl is very powerful. It is 50 to 100 times more toxic than morphine and has been linked many recent overdose deaths.

"There is no such thing as a safe street drug," said Montague. "There is no way to know for certain what the drug may contain."
