Errors costly for Falcons

The Kelowna Falcons dropped the opener of a three-game set 6-4 to the Wenatchee AppleSox, Tuesday night at Elks Stadium.

Four Kelowna errors led to three runs early on for Wenatchee, and a late comeback attempt fell short.

Wenatchee scored the first run of the game in the top half of the first inning as an error and wild pitch put a runner on third with two out. An infield single from Mitchell Holland scored the run, and he moved to second on another Kelowna error.

The Falcons responded in the bottom half, scoring once on a sacrifice fly from Justin Flores to score Grant Meylan.

Wenatchee put two runs up in the second inning off a fly ball from Jordan Rathbone in his WCL debut, and another run scored when Joey Jansen reached on an error.

Wenatchee added another in the fourth with a Rathbone RBI double and scored two runs on five hits in the fifth off Curtis Taylor.

Taylor worked five innings, gave up 10 hits and three earned runs while striking out five.

Flores hit a two-run homerun in the sixth to make it 6-3. With the bomb, Flores ties the single-season record for RBIs as a Kelowna Falcon with 33, and moves into a tie for second in homeruns, with six.

Kelowna added another in the eighth inning, but couldn't score as the game ended on a fly out to centrefield.

With the loss, Kelowna's record moves to 27-15, while Wenatchee moves to 20-23.

Kelowna sends Nat Hamby to the mound tonight at Elks Stadium. First pitch is at 6:35 p.m.
