Mountain bike trail funding

A network of mountain biking trails in Penticton will see more improvements, thanks to a financial boost.

Okanagan-Coquihalla conservative MP Dan Albas  announced support of $34,750 for the Three Blind Mice Trail Network under the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program, on Monday.

"A healthy and thriving community requires the necessary sporting facilities and outdoor spaces to ensure the community is able to stay fit and active," said Albas. "Thanks to this investment, the rehabilitation to the Penticton mountain bike trails will help foster an energized and positive community."

In its 2015 budget, the government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure.

The government committed $150 million for the program, in order to provide significant support for community and cultural infrastructure across the country.

This project will improve Penticton’s mountain bike trails through a dedicated recreation site spanning more than 4,000 acres.

"We are excited to receive this funding and plan to put the money to good use. Our mandate has always been to enhance the pursuit of recreation and healthy living in the Penticton area," said Laura Harp, president and land access co-ordinator for the Penticton & Area Cycling Association, PACA. "We will be using these funds for trail signage, kiosks, bridge replacements, trail improvements and an expanded parking area for the 3 Blind Mice in order to make this amazing destination even better."

The government funding matches the $34,750 that PACA has raised through various sources.

They have begun work on the bridges already and have one complete.
