Close call as pedestrian hit

A pedestrian was struck by a pickup in the Lower Sahali area of Kamloops, Monday morning.

Shortly before 8 a.m., RCMP responded to a report of a pedestrian stuck at the pedestrian crossing on Columbia Street near Sahali Terrace.

Police arrived to find that vehicles in the curb lane for Westbound traffic had stopped to allow a pedestrian to cross. When the 32-year-old female began to cross, she was struck by a pickup that failed to stop in time in the left lane.

The pedestrian received minor injuries when she was struck by the side mirror of the truck.

The victim was taken to Royal Inland Hospital by ambulance for treatment and observation.

The driver of the pickup, who remained on scene, was issued a violation ticket under the Motor Vehicle Act for failing to yield to a pedestrian.
