Evac alert lifted at Bolean

Favourable weather conditions have led to the lifting of an evacuation alert for the Bolean Lake wildfire, near Falkland.

Fire information officer Noelle Kekula says there has been a significant decrease in fire behaviour. A cooling trend along with increasing containment levels have considerably lowered the risk to nearby structures.

However, an area restriction put in place around the fire to protect the safety of firefighting personnel and the public remains in force.

B.C. Wildfire Service crews will continue mopping up hot spots along the fire's perimeter today.

A 21-person sustained action crew from Ontario has also been assigned to the site.

While the cool, wet weather has helped fire crews across the province, hot and dry conditions are forecast to return by the end of the week. The Kamloops Fire Centre reminds the public to be extra cautious in the backcountry.

To report a wildfire or open burning violation, call 1-800-663-5555 toll-free or *5555 on a cellphone.
