West Kelowna

Smoke moves into valley

Residents on the Westside were inundated with smoke this evening as it made its way across the province and into the Okanagan.

Fire information officer Kelsey Winter says there are currently no fires burning in West Kelowna or the Peachland area.

With more than 180 fires actively burning in B.C., a heavy grey haze is starting to blanket the region.

In Metro Vancouver, health advisories have been issued, urging those with heart or lung problems or medical conditions such as diabetes, as well as the elderly and the very young, to remain indoors and limit strenuous activity.

Air quality advisories have been issued for southern Vancouver Island, along the mainland coast, and the Fraser Valley as well.
