Evacuation order remains

UPDATE 11 A.M.

Although crews are making good progress on the Joe Rich fire, the evacuation order for 28 properties will remain in effect.

The Emergency Operation Centre advises that there is no change in the status of the evacuation order and alerts for the fire east of Kelowna.

Residents living on 28 properties along Highway 33 and Huckleberry Road remain under Evacuation Order

“The fire within the order area remains active today and is being fought on the ground by fire fighters with Joe Rich Fire/Rescue department and approximately 40 B.C. wildfire service personnel,” writes the EOC.

“For this reason, it is not safe to let residents return to their homes within the evacuation order area and the area remains closed to everyone.”

RCMP members will continue to restrict access and provide security patrols within the fire area that remains under the evacuation order.

The fire is now 100 per cent contained and has burned approximately 55 hectares.
