Good night on fire line

UPDATE 7 a.m.

Firefighters monitoring the Joe Rich wildfire report a good night on the fire line.

The fire is estimated holding at approximately 80 hectares in size.

About 14 structural firefighters from Joe Rich Fire Rescue and the Big White Fire department, along with 20 personnel from the B.C. Wildfire Service snuffed out some minor flare-ups and knocked down hot spots found during overnight patrols.

The regional district emergency operations centre reports fire guards and retardant lines put in place Friday are holding.

The unified command directing fire crews will be determining today’s plan of action over the next few hours in a continuing effort to increase containment and determine any possible change in the status of evacuation orders and alerts.

All evacuation orders and alerts remain in effect.

Evacuation orders and alerts remained in effect overnight on the Joe Rich wildfire burning east of Kelowna.

The fire was estimated 80 hectares in size as of late Friday, and 142 properties had been evacuated. 

Residents of another 158 properties remain on evacuation alert and must be prepared to leave their homes on short notice, should conditions change.

Wildfire officials are expected to update the fire situation this morning.
