911 shooting call a hoax

A call to police about a shooting in Kamloops proved to be false Thursday afternoon.

Const. Jason Epp said RCMP received a 911 call at 1 p.m. about a man wielding a gun and knife on the 1100 block of 14th Street.

Initial information was that someone had been shot, and police responded to the residence with all available resources. The South East District emergency response team was also activated.

Officers contained the area and evacuated neighbouring residents.  Contact with the occupants of the suspected residence by phone, and the occupants were briefly detained and questioned.

However, upon interviewing the occupants, it was quickly determined the complaint was false and the occupants of the home were victims of a hoax.

RCMP are continuing to investigate this matter, and criminal charges will likely be sought if the identity of the caller can be confirmed.

Anyone with information about the identity of the suspect is asked to call Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 or CrimeStoppers at 250-828-3175.
