Partial lift of evacuation

UPDATE: 4:10 P.M.

The City of Kamloops said today in a release they would be fully lifting the evacuation order for all houses by 6:00 p.m. this evening.

Since there will be no gas or electricity services for residents of the Oakdale Mobile Home Park, vouchers for accommodation from Emergency Social Services will remain valid for up to 72 hours.

Some Kamloops residents are heading back home today after the City of Kamloops Emergency Operations Centre partially rescinded its evacuation order from yesterday's flooding.

The flash flood was caused by heavy rain and forced evacuations from multiple neighbourhoods in Kamloops.

Today’s partial rescinding of the evacuation order will allow residents located on Irving Place, Parkview Drive, Rhonmore Crescent, Oak Hills Boulevard and the 2400 block of Westsyde Road to go home. Residents of the Oakdale Mobile Home Park remain under evacuation.

The City of Kamloops said those who are returning home should look for a notice on their front door from Fortis BC and BC Hydro regarding reconnecting their gas and power services. Residents can only reconnect their services once their homes have been inspected. Fortis will not complete their inspections until July 3.

The City of Kamloops is allowing Westsyde residents to dump any natural debris, like rocks, branches or mud, for free at the Mission Flats Landfill.
