Wind wreaks havoc

A tornado-like wind that came in from multiple directions wreaked havoc in a tiny South Okanagan community, Monday afternoon.

According to Willowbrook Volunteer Fire Dept. Chief Brad Fossett, the big wind blew in about 4:30 p.m.

"There were trees that fell on houses, with about five houses on Green Lake Road and Johnson Crescent sustaining serious damage," he said. "Trees also fell on six or seven other properties. It was tornado-like because the trees fell in all different directions."

The strange weather also took down three hydro poles and all the lines adjacent to them.

People lost power, but that was restored throughout the area as of noon today, said Fossett.

He added the fire department mostly spent the afternoon making sure people stayed clear of the downed lines and stopping traffic.

On Tuesday, people were busy cleaning up their properties, including Fossett.

"I had damage to my property," he said. "I've got an easy job compared to others."
