ORIGINAL 11 A.M.

The family of a 24-year-old Albertan man is pleading for the public's help after he went missing over the weekend.

Curtis Wilson's vehicle was found abandoned near the south end of Cosens Bay on Kalamalka Lake. The body of the friend he was with was later found in the lake in what police were calling a suspicious death. Wilson has not been seen or heard from since.

“It is hard to stay positive at this time because it is out of character for Curtis not to call, somebody,” says his sister Shanna Wilson, from Grande Prairie. “Particularly my mom. If he is in trouble or if anything happened, he would call my mom.”

She says her brother left his home in Lethbridge last Thursday in his girlfriend's black Chrysler 200, the same car found abandoned near Vernon.

“He was seen in Vernon on Saturday,” says Wilson. “He said nothing to us about Vernon.”

He had originally told the family he was heading to Grande Prairie. Wilson says they don't know why he would have come to the Okanagan.

“I called police Saturday evening,” says Wilson. “Saturday morning, he was with a friend as well as with the guy that is now deceased, and they were eating breakfast together and that was the last time he was seen, to my knowledge.”

Although Wilson doesn't know the people her brother was last seen with, she says they have been co-operative with her family and police.

“I don't know the deceased, but Curtis's girlfriend had met him a couple times, I believe,” says Wilson. “The other friend they joined for breakfast I didn't know either, but he is being very co-operative and has given us good information.”

She says the family has called his cellphone relentlessly since he disappeared, but it has been off since late Saturday. They also check his social media profiles constantly for any signs.

Given the circumstances surrounding his disappearance, Wilson says it's hard to stay positive.

“We are very scared,” she says. “The fact the guy he was with is deceased makes things a lot more frightening. The car that Curtis was driving was also found there.”

She says RCMP are keeping in contact with the family, but won't release too many details as it is an active investigation.

Family members including Wilson are headed to the Okanagan today to help with the search.

Wilson pleads with anyone who has any information to call local RCMP 250-545-7171, or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
