Dogs join in search

As the search for Kara Stoyanowski enters its second week, RCMP are adding a new component to the search.

Cpl. Joe Duncan confirmed police dogs will be sent to the area in hopes of locating the 24-year-old Winnipeg woman who walked away from her campsite in the Headwater and Peachland lakes area last Tuesday.

"They are probably going to be there for the next couple of days searching. RCMP air services are going to be out there today as well," said Duncan.

Despite the fact Stoyanowski has been missing nine days, Duncan said investigators are still confident she is out there somewhere.

"Investigators are still calling it a search. They believe she is out there it's just a matter of locating her," said Duncan.

"They believe she is in that area but she may have walked out and she's somewhere in the city or she could be in Calgary or Edmonton or Vancouver. We just don't know where she's at but we're actively looking for her."

Although she was not dressed for wilderness survival Duncan said they are fortunate temperatures have not been too cool at night.

He added there are a few forestry camps in the area and, while he doesn't know the area himself, believes some of the camps may have cabins.

"She may be holed up in one of those now just waiting for someone to find her."

Stoyanowski was camping in the area with a male companion.

She is described as:

  • Caucasian female
  • Five feet eight inches tall
  • 120 pounds
  • Short pink hair
  • Wearing shirt, shorts and flip flops
