Tale of the missing iPod

Every now and then a story pops up to restore your faith in humanity, kindness and doing the right thing.

This is one of those.

Back in March, six-year-old Taylor Easter left her iPod in the back of a rented truck her family was using on a trip from Kelowna to Edmonton. They called the car rental agency, with no luck.

"But the funny thing is we called Enterprise Rent-A Car in Edmonton a few times and it was a little disappointing because they didn't call us back. They said they would look in the truck my husband had rented, but they didn't call back and didn't call back," said Theresa Easter.

When all hope seemed lost, they got an email from a man in Alberta.

"We were really surprised because we had covered all our bases, then we got an email from John in Bonneyville saying he had found a pink little girl's iPod," said Easter.

"I guess he got my husband's email address off the iTunes account because we didn't have anything on it saying if lost please return or please call this number."

She said they were surprised he found the iPod and even more surprised when he said he was well off and insisted on picking up the shipping cost and asked for nothing in return.

What's more, Easter said the package not only contained the iPod, but $40 and a note saying, "Noticed the home button was sticky. iWorld should be able to replace. I promise I didn't break it. Here's $40 anyways, grab a case and enjoy a little found money."

Easter said the button was already broken before her daughter lost it.

She posted the story on Facebook and received a call from a friend who owns Cellwerx in Kelowna who offered to fix the button at no cost. He also put in a new battery.

As for the $40, Easter said they will use it to help someone else in need.

"We're going to pay it forward. We haven't figured it out yet. We're going to let (Taylor) decide."

Easter said they are looking for an opportunity to present itself.
