More daycare spaces

The OSNS Child Development Center will offer more daycare spaces down the road, thanks to a financial boost.

On Friday, MLA Dan Ashton dropped by the Penticton centre to present a cheque in the amount of $224,487  to the organization.

"This funding for the KinderBear Developmental Daycare gives OSNS the opportunity to compliment existing childcare facilities which focus on supporting kids who have developmental challenges," said executive director Manisha Willms.  "So all of us, our clinical teams, our early childhood teams, are really excited to be a part of adding much needed spaces to the South Okanagan.""

The OSNS helps children and youth with developmental needs from throughout the region.

Ahston said he was happy to provide the support, as he stood surrounded by children at the centre on Carmi Avenue.

"First of all there is a definite need," he said. "And I have a long history with the OSNS and there is s soft spot for them in my heart."

Willms said they are fortunate to have advocates like Ashton, who understands the need to get to kids early.

"If you can support kids early they are more confident and more ready for school, for dance, for soccer," she said. "And in the end that just builds a more vibrant community and increases the health of young people."
