Orchard fire quickly doused

A potentially dangerous blaze in a hot, dry orchard in East Kelowna was quickly doused by two fire trucks and their crews Thursday afternoon.

The fire occurred in an area that appeared to be used as a burn pit, for burning scrap wood and cuttings, according to Cpt. Jarret Dais of the Kelowna Fire Department.

Dais said a neighbour of the Pooley Rd. orchard had called the fire in and the owner of the property was not present when they arrived.

Crews made quick work of the blaze, putting it out within three or four minutes according to Dais.
