More shots in Surrey

UPDATE

Surrey RCMP are investigating whether the latest round of gunfire is linked to the spate of shootings believed spurred by an ongoing gang dispute.

Police say they found evidence of shots fired in the Newton neighbourhood of Surrey, B.C., on Sunday night.

Officers responded after witnesses reported gunfire exchanged between two black cars driving down the street.

Bystanders say children were playing outdoors at the time of the 8 p.m. incident, which was also close to a popular park and not far from an elementary school.

Sgt. David MacDonald says no injuries have been reported.

Residents of Surrey and Delta are alarmed over more than 30 shootings believed related to a clash between two drug gangs, while the violence has prompted the federal government to promise 100 new Mounties for the area.

Another incident of gunfire has been reported by Surrey RCMP.

The Lower Mainland city has been plagued by a drug trade turf war in recent weeks, with numerous shootings on public streets.

About 8 p.m. Sunday, police received a report of shots fired on the 13400 block of 70B Avenue.

Officers located evidence consistent with shots being fired in that area, said Sgt. David MacDonald.  No injuries were reported.

Police are investigating and canvassing the neighbourhood for further information.

Investigators are still trying to determine if the incident is linked to any of the previous shootings that have rocked Surrey and Delta.
