Hell freezes over?

It may be May in B.C., but in Edmonton, it is feeling a lot more like Christmas.

A cold weather system moved in to areas of Alberta overnight, including the Edmonton region.

Social media was flooded with photos of Edmontonians enjoying the snow and even building springtime snowmen.

As the white stuff fell the morning after Albertans voted in an NDP majority government, ending nearly 44 years of Conservative rule, the jokes on social media began to fly that hell really had frozen over.

One person joked on Instagram that after only one day in power, the newly elected NDP had already solved global warming.

While others took the weather as a sign of doom for the new province, sharing their distrust in the New Democrats.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement earlier today, with a total of 5-10 centimetres of snow expected by tonight.

Snow and rain is also reportedly hitting Alberta communities such as Camrose, Drayton Valley, Lloydminster, Cold Lake and Fort McMurray.
