Hair-raising driver video

Despite a police crackdown on distracted driving, it's clear not everyone is getting the message.

A Youtube video of a woman curling her hair while driving on a Vancouver Island highway at 90 km/h, is quickly going viral.

The video, shot by the passenger of the car beside her, shows the woman using both hands to curl her hair, apparently steering with her knees.

The video was reportedly captured Saturday evening on Island Highway, north of Nanaimo.

Statistics show that, on average, 32 people are killed in the Southern Interior each year and 80 are killed provincewide due to distracted driving-related crashes.

Drivers are four times more likely to get into an accident if they use a cellphone (or curling iron) while driving, making distracted driving the second leading cause of crash fatalities in the province.

The driver has not been identified yet, as the video failed to show her licence plate. But, with it gaining notoriety, someone may recognize her soon.
