Opposition to utility fee

A Penticton senior opposed to the city's plans to charge a $1 postage fee for mailed utility bills is expected to present a petition to council, Monday night.

Jean Mitchell has been circulating a petition on the matter, since learning about the change proposed by the city.

In addition to the $1 for postage, Mitchell is concerned about the switch to e-billing, online banking and communication via email.

She is expected to give a talk, when she hands in the petition.

Other presentations at the meeting will be on Lyme Disease awareness, progress of the Penticton oxbows, local and regional health programs and services and an update on the healthy community initiative.

Highlights of the agenda include discussion on Penticton Creek restoration, with staff suggesting that council endorse moving forward with the project in accordance with a plan of action.

Included in that plan is the showcase project be designed with a no rise philosophy adjusted where possible to enhance fish habitat while not significantly increasing the risk of flooding.

A strata conversion is suggested for 483 Maurice Street and there is a liquor primary license application for 200 Ellis Street and a winery lounge and special event area endorsement for Bench 1775 Winery.

Also on the agenda is the fees and charges amendment bylaw and tax rate bylaw.
