For the second time, the Kamloops RCMP have a mobile tool to use against impaired drivers.

Alexa’s Bus contains all the equipment required to collect evidence and process impaired drivers efficiently and effectively at roadside locations. It eliminates the need to transport persons back to the detachment to conduct the tests and seek legal advice. 

The new Mobile Road Safety Unit is a legacy in Alexa Middelaer’s memory, a four-year-old killed by an impaired driver as she was standing roadside feeding a horse in May of 2008.

Her death was a catalyst for change. Her parents channeled their grief into reducing the number of impaired drivers on the roads and highways in B.C.

Alexa’s bus would not have come to be without the support of ICBC, MADD, the BCAA Traffic Safety Foundation, Road Safety Partners and community supporters who donated to the campaign. 

"We are fortunate to have the bus in Kamloops for a second time, in efforts to create awareness around impaired driving and enhance our enforcement," said Cpl. Cheryl Bush in a release. "Citizens can expect to see the bus out at road checks and community events over the next ten days."
