Rotary fundraiser for Nepal

Almost a week after a devastating earthquake struck Nepal, the Penticton Rotary Clubs have partnered with ShelterBox Canada to hold a fundraiser for the people affected by the disaster.

The two day fundraiser will be held at Cherry Lane mall starting this Saturday, May 2.

ShelterBox is an organization that responds to disasters around the world, providing the emergency shelter and lifesaving supplies families need to survive in the immediate aftermath of a disasters.

The rotary will set up an example of a 'ShelterBox' to show what your donation money will help provide to the people of Nepal.

A typical ShelterBox contains a family tent, blankets, water purification, cooking utensils, a stove, a tool kit, a children’s activity pack and other vital items.

An entire ShelterBox costs $1,200 and is tax deductible.

Started in 2000 as a single club Rotary project in the UK, ShelterBox now has 18 affiliates around the world, including ShelterBox Canada.

“We're asking for your support to help with the Rotary Shelter Box campaign to help the people effected by the disaster in Nepal,” says Edward Jones of the Penticton Rotary Clubs.

The event will take place at Cherry Lane from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and May 3 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
