A well-worn Vernon rumour appears to be more than just that. 

During discussion about Marshall Field, Vernon city council was told there is potential to locate a disc golf course there.

City staff are taking measurements of the area to confirm its feasibility.

The sport is played on nine- or 18-"hole" courses. The object is for players to hit targets and specially made baskets in as few throws as possible, with various weighted flying discs.

Disc golf began in the 1960s with “Steady” Ed Headrick, the inventor of the Wham-O Frisbee. The first formal course opened in 1974, in California.

The sport has experienced a resurgence in the past few decades, with more than 40 courses listed on the B.C. Disc Sports website, including courses near Vernon, Kelowna and West Kelowna.
