OK Falls park vote

On April 25, voters within the Okanagan Falls and District Recreation Service Area will speak to the purchase of park space in Okanagan Falls and Heritage Hills.

The question being asked is if residents are in favour of the Regional District Okanagan Similkameen adopting a bylaw to provide for the authorization to borrow $950,000 to purchase parkland within the Okanagan Falls and District recreation service area.

"I think it's important that on such issues that have a modest tax implication that residents of the area which will benefit should have an opportunity to state their preference," said RDOS Area D director Tom Siddon. "As the local electoral area director, I support this initiative and hope that everyone affected will vote on Saturday."

The parkland acquisition bylaw provides for the funding of two separate properties, one in Okanagan Falls and a second in Heritage Hills.

Most of the borrowed $950,000 will be used to finalize the purchase of the lot and home immediately east of Christie Memorial Park in Okanagan Falls.

The remainder of the money will be used to purchase land in the Heritage Hills development to set up a neighbourhood park.

Voting is from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, April 25 in the Okanagan Falls Elementary School library, 1141 Cedar St.
