Various contractors took centre stage in an Ottawa courtroom Thursday as the trial of suspended Sen. Mike Duffy reached the eight-day mark.

Court heard the contractors were paid through a taxpayer-funded account that Duffy allegedly used to get around Senate finance rules.

A makeup artist, a personal trainer and a former intern all testified about being paid for services by companies run by Duffy's long-time friend Gerald Donohue.

In one piece of testimony, makeup artist Jacqueline Lambert said she did makeup for both Duffy and Prime Minister Stephen Harper in 2010 ahead of a Parliament Hill event.

That contradicted a government source who told The Canadian Press last week that the makeup services Harper received that day were not paid for by taxpayers.

Stephen Lecce, a spokesman for the Prime Minister's Office, reiterated Thursday that taxpayers did not pay for Harper's makeup.

Duffy faces 30 charges of fraud and breach of trust charges in addition to a single count of bribery involving a cheque that came from Harper's former chief of staff.

Duffy has pleaded not guilty to all of the charges. His lawyer, Donald Bayne, has said if his client is guilty of anything, it is administrative errors, not criminal behaviour.
