Baby Emrie needs help

Two Kelowna parents have turned to the community to raise money for their daughter, who is in critical condition.

Emrie is a four-and-a-half-month old who is currently in critical condition at B.C. Children's Hospital in Vancouver.

She suffers from a range of sicknesses and physical abnormalities.

Her heart is on the right side of her body, she has a collapsed lung and her trachea is only two millimetres wide. The average baby's trachea is the size of their pinky.

Emrie's lungs are swollen, irritated and mucous-filled as she battles pneumonia and corono virus, which is causing her airways to be tight.

She is intubated and heavily sedated to lessen irritation to her airways. If the airways close, there is nothing more doctors can do.

The family is raising money so that Emrie's father, Todd, can be with his wife, Jess, and baby in this difficult time.

"My beautiful ... baby niece Emrie has had a rough start from day one being born a premie," reads a GoFundMe campaign page. "Currently, Emrie is the sickest baby in the hospital, so things are very severe.

"She is going to need surgery. She has a tear near her heart valve and a heart murmur, which complicates things. They cannot do the surgery until she is strong enough to handle it because the risks are too high. She has to fight off all these viruses first."

So far, $6,750 of the $10,000 goal has been raised.
