Driver pinned in crash

A pickup driver was pinned inside his vehicle during an early morning crash in Penticton

About 3:45 a.m., residents of Government Street were awoken by a loud crash.

People could be heard yelling and screaming, and a truck was flipped on its side. Debris was scattered all over the 1400 block of the road, in front of the Hillside Plaza apartments.

Emergency personnel on scene said the vehicle was speeding northbound on Government when the driver lost control and ran into a cement wall at high speed. The truck rolled several times.

Three teenagers were said to be in the vehicle. Two got out, but the driver had to be extricated by firefighters. The extraction took more then a hour as the driver was pinned in tightly.

Two fire trucks with five firefighters, two ambulances and four RCMP responded to the incident.
