Ellis to close for month

Downtown construction will close a busy business street for an entire month.

Beginning 7 a.m. Monday, Ellis Street will close between Doyle Avenue and the north side of the library parkade until April 10.

The closure is necessitated by utility upgrade work adjacent to the parkade.

Parking for businesses and services north of the parkade, including Interior Health, can be accessed from Cawston Avenue during the road closure, the City of Kelowna says in a press release.

Okanagan Regional Library and the parkade will remain open and can be accessed via the Doyle Avenue entrance. Pedestrian access to the library and along Ellis Street and Doyle Avenue will also be maintained.

Construction hours are Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with work outside those hours as needed.

Water service tie-ins and sidewalk excavation will mainly be done between midnight and 6 a.m. to mitigate impact to businesses and pedestrians.

The city reminds motorists that a new all-way stop at the intersection of Doyle and Water Street has been installed to facilitate traffic movement around the construction.
