Big lift at Vernon Jubilee

Cranes are making some big lifts this week as construction materials are being hoisted to the seventh floor of Vernon Jubilee Hospital's Polson Tower.

According to Interior Health spokesperson Patrick Gall, interior construction on the sixth and seventh floors of the Polson Tower is on schedule and on budget.

“The sixth floor is currently undergoing painting and millwork installation, with flooring set to begin mid-March,” says Gall. “The seventh floor is currently undergoing mechanical/electrical infrastructure work and drywall installation. The top floor is currently in the process of having the HVAC systems installed, with ongoing duct work.”

Full completion of the top floors is slated for this fall, while the new UBC Okanagan Medical School academic space is expected to open soon.

The medical school will occupy 3,123 square feet and will be situated in the previously empty, shelled-in west end of the fifth floor.

It will include centralized education areas, a clinical skills room and two video-conference rooms, as well as an on-call sleep area, lounge and lockers for medical students.
