Hockey rallies for Kaylee

Community support for a Penticton teen who is battling cancer continues to grow.

Penticton Minor Hockey's Tim Hortons Novice #3 Jr Vees - Green Stars (7 to 9 years old) and their parents are holding a fundraiser on Saturday to assist 16-year-old Kaylee Kozari-Bowland's family with the costs for her cancer treatments.

"Penticton is a relatively small town, and her story is well known, especially within the hockey community," said team manager Andy Kilduff. "Kaylee and her family should be spending time together, with as little stress as possible. They should not have to worry about how the next treatment bill will be paid.  We owe it as a community to step up and ease that burden."

The team will be selling popcorn, and there will be a raffle for some signed NHL memorabilia.

General donations for Kaylee will also be accepted.

The Green Stars also challenged all PMHA teams and local businesses to meet or beat their $50 donation and so far has had a good response.

The fundraiser is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, at Walmart.

Mayor Andrew Jakubeit will be coming to show his support at 1 p.m. ,and Coun. Max Picton is also expected to attend.
