Cop fired for theft

The New Westminster Police Department has terminated one of its members after an internal theft investigation.

The member involved had eight years of service, and although no longer employed with the NWPD, will continue to face both Police Act and Criminal Code allegations related to other matters, the department said in a press release.

“A critical function of any police department is to maintain public trust by acting with the utmost of integrity and ensuring a strong commitment to ethical behavior by all of its employees,” said Chief Const. Dave Jones.

“This allegation was taken very seriously from the outset, and I can assure the community that a significant amount of effort and resources were committed to this investigation to ensure that the information gathered was accurate and complete.”

The department said it would not be providing further details at this time.
