Rockets hit century mark

The Kelowna Rockets are the first team in the Western Hockey League to hit the 100 point plateau.

Friday in Vancouver Gage Quinney had a goal and two assists while Michael Herringer turned aside all 29 shots he faced in a 4-0 win over the Giants.

It's the third straight year the Rockets have hit the 100 point mark after seasons of 118 and 108 points in the previous two campaigns.

Herringer, making his fourth straight start in place of Jackson Whistle, who continues to recover from appendectomy surgery, improved to 9-2 with a pair of shutouts.

Rodney Southam with a goal and an assist, Leon Draisaitl and Dillon Dube also scored for the Rockets.

Draisaitl, with the game's opening goal, now has five game winners and 13 goals in 22 games since being acquired from Prince Albert.

Kelowna was without the services of defenceman Josh Morrissey plus forwards Justin Kirkland, Rourke Chartier and Tomas Soustal Friday.

The absences meant Tanner Wishnowski was able to get into his first game of the season.

The Rockets, 48-10-3-1, are two wins shy of hitting the 50 win plateau for the third straight year.

Only the 1989 to 1992 Kamloops Blazers have managed three straight 50 win campaigns.

They also have a chance to equal the record of 29 road wins established by the 2011-2012 Portland Winterhawks.

The Rockets go for win number 49 Saturday when they host the Calgary Hitmen.

A win would also clinch a second straight Western Conference title.
