Rockets ride penalty kill

The Kelowna Rockets battled back from a 2-0 deficit largely on the back of a perfect penalty kill in a 4-2 win Wednesday over the Victoria Royals.

The Rockets, who lead all playoff bound teams with 906 penalty minutes, found themselves in penalty trouble, especially over the final 40 minutes when they found themselves shorthanded six times.

They killed off all six and managed one of their own on the power-play.

Leon Draisaitl snapped a 2-2 tie with his 12th of the season and his fourth game winner since joining the team 21 games ago.

Tyson Baillie with a shorthanded goal 15 minutes in added some insurance.

Madison Bowey and Chance Braid scored in the second period for the Rockets. Cole Linaker added a pair of assists.

The Royals opened the scoring with the only two goals of the opening period off the sticks of Austin Carroll and Greg Chase.

Michael Herringer, making his third straight start, made 25 saves in registering the victory.

The Rockets, 47-10-3-1, host the Calgary Hitmen Saturday. It's Calgary's only trip into Kelowna this season.

The only other meeting between the two teams came back in December, a 4-1 Calgary victory.
