Fog lifts at YLW

UPDATE 1:20 p.m.

The fog has lifted at Kelowna International Airport, and passengers are back on their way.

YLW spokesperson Jenelle Hynes said this afternoon that one Air Canada and two WestJet flights caused cancellations and multiple delays of up to two and a half hours. A Central Mountain Air flight was delayed five hours because of fog in Prince George.

Air Canada is adding an extra flight this afternoon at 3 p.m., Hynes said.

"The sun is shining and fog has cleared, so no further issues are expected today," she added.

Numerous flights are delayed or cancelled at Kelowna International Airport this morning.

YLW staff were unavailable for comment, but a check of the airport's online departure and arrival boards shows many red and yellow-flagged flights.

According to Environment Canada, this morning's fog should burn off, but in the meantime, travellers are beginning to stack up in the airport's departure lounge.

Castanet will provide more information as the situation changes.
