Warrior commits to Bentley

West Kelowna Warriors forward Brett Mennear has found a home for the 2017-18 hockey season.

Mennear has committed to play for the Bentley University Falcons.

The West Kelowna native will play two more seasons with the Warriors next season before moving on to university.

“I’m very excited to have committed to play hockey at Bentley University. I decided to commit there because it was a great fit on the ice as well as academically,” said Mennear.

The Warriors coaching staff echoed his statements about the fit to the Falcons program.

“Brett is a great 200-foot player, and Bentley is getting a player that is dedicated on and off the ice,” said Warriors associate head coach Brent Gough,

“We are extremely excited for this opportunity for Brett. Bentley has had great success with players from our program, and we hope that Brett is another one of those successes.”

Mennear has registered 14 goals and 19 assists in 102 games with the Warriors during a little less than two full seasons with the team.

In 41 games this season, Mennear has nine goals and 20 points.

Prior to joining the Warriors, Mennear played for the Okanagan Rockets of the B.C. Major Midget League, where he put up 32 goals and added 57 assists in 78 games.

He also had 7 points (2 goals, 5 assists) in 8 playoff games for the Rockets in 2012-13.

He will join fellow Warrior Jonathan Desbiens and former captain Max French on the Falcons roster in 2016-17.

Three other former Warriors, Alex Grieve (Sr), Matt Maher (Sr) and Tyler Krause (Jr), are also playing at Bentley.
