UPDATE 1:33 P.M. 

Hwy. 5 is now clear southbound and all lanes are back open south of Merritt.

The burnt truck has reportedly been removed from the highway.

A tractor-trailer fire has caused lane closures southbound on the Coquihalla as firefighters and RCMP work to contain the scene.

According to witness Bobbie Dube, the flames fully engulfed the cab of the truck. He says the driver was out safely and could be seen on the side of the highway with a fire extinguisher in hand.

The incident is near the Comstock Exit 276, and drivers are being warned to expect possible delays.
