Diving santas go deep for SPCA

A group of SCUBA divers dressed as santa hit the water Saturday to raise funds for the SPCA.

Kelowna Divers and MAB Construction hosted the santa splash and were selling SPCA merchandise, goodie bags and turkey sandwiches by donation.

Kelowna Divers is a relatively new dive school operated by Tim and Becky Butt. Tim said after 23 years in the British military, he's happy to be teaching his favourite water sport in Kelowna.

About 10 divers dressed up for the event. They were joined by volunteers from the SPCA, friends and family as well as at least four dogs who gathered in the pouring rain to show support.

There was also a raffle and prizes.

Jed Forrest and Lexy Parks are Okanagan College students and were doing the final dive of their open water diver certification Saturday.

They were a bit surprised when they learned their final dive would be dressed as Saint Nick.

"We had no idea," Forrest said. "Tim and Becky are just fantastic instructors, they're super patient."
